Imagine a chili cheese toast, but stuffed in the middle of dosa batter and cooked to perfection!
I bought my Paniyaram pan a few months ago thinking it was the coolest thing ever and so versatile because I could make these beautifully delicious appe’s on them or mini dutch pancakes! Sure enough, the pan just sat in my cabinet for months, untouched. Then I went to one of my favorite South Indian restaurants a few days ago and, when I was going through the menu, I remembered I had previously tried their Kuzhi Paniyaram, which I had absolutely LOVED! It was basically dosa/idli batter blended with onions and green chilies, shallow fried. And that’s when I remembered, that I, too, had a Paniyaram pan and it was about time that I used it! But of course, if you know me, I like to change things up sometimes rather than sticking to traditional ways of doing things. So with that, I present to you my Chili Cheese Paniyaram! Imagine your favorite chili cheese toast, but stuffed inside dosa batter, shallow fried to perfection! Yup, my mouth was watering too when I was conceptualizing the idea. And I’m sure you can guess how I felt once I actually made them and tried them!
What you will need:
- Paniyaram/Appe Pan – I bought mine from the Indian store but I linked a similar one for you guys here
- Dosa batter (homemade or store bought)
- Amul cheese
- Green chili
- Onion
- Sandwich masala (or chat masala if you don’t have sandwich masala)
- Red chili powder (you can adjust amount based on preferred level of spice)
- Ghee
- Your favorite dipping chutney to enjoy these balls of heaven with!
Now, I did cheat a little bit because I used store bought dosa batter instead of homemade, but I’m all about saving time and making things easy! That being said, if you feel like making homemade dosa batter for this, feel free! These delicious bites of happiness are perfectly crispy on the outside with a soft, fluffy, spicy, cheesy interior, and the flavors work so well together! I promise, you won’t even realize how many you’re eating because you’ll keep popping these bite sized delights in to your mouth! It’s super easy to make and is a great appetizer or snack! My Paniyaram pan had 12 molds so I had to do this process twice, and those are the measurements I included in the recipe, however, you can cut it down or increase it as needed! Hope you guys will give this one a try because it’s SO yummy! You won’t want to miss this one! Happy munching, folks!
