Refreshing Rose Lassi

This cold, refreshing drink is the perfect solution to a hot summer day!

I never used to be a fan of anything rose flavored when I was younger, but as I grew up and my palette changed to become more accepting of other flavors, rose became one of my favorites! I absolutely love everything rose flavored or scented now and my favorite perfume is also rose based! So it was only fitting that I shared a rose themed recipe with all of you!

As the weather starts to get warmer and people start to head outside more, we move from eating heavy, comforting meals, to lighter, crisper, refreshing meals and lots of liquids! Drinks are huge during the summer to help us stay refreshed and hydrated, which is why I made this quick and easy refreshing Rose Lassi to share with you! It’s delicious and uses only a few simple ingredients that can be easily found at your local Indian grocery store. Not to mention, it’s also super pretty, and we all love to eat with our eyes before we taste with our mouths!

Lassi is something that most Indian children grew up drinking on hot summer days. I remember on the weekends, when it was scorching outside, my mom would make plain yogurt lassi with some black pepper for my dad and he would love it. It was a great addition to Sunday lunches or even just as a standalone refreshment during mid-afternoon. It’s also so simple to make, all you need is a blender! I made mine in my Vitamix, but you can easily make it in a Nutribullet, Magic Bullet, or really anything you have! This recipe can also be easily halved, doubled, or tripled, depending on how many people you are serving!

For this version of Rose Lassi that I made, I used Low-Fat Desi Yogurt, but you can use any yogurt you have! You can even use Greek Yogurt if you prefer, but you may just need to adjust the amount of water slightly to help with the thickness of it. Lassi usually is a slightly thicker drink, so don’t blend it too much or it will end up being watery!

Here are a few other things I used to make this drink:

  • I used Rooh Afza as my rose syrup because this is what my mom used to use growing up and also how we made sharbat, but any brand will do
  • For my rose water, I used Swad Arq-E-Gulab rose water that is available at your local Indian grocery store
  • I love a pretty garnish on my food and drinks, so I used Rose Dose organic rose petals in my lassi. While the garnish is optional, I love the scent that permeates throughout the drink with the addition of these, it just finishes the drink off perfectly!

This is definitely going to be a part of my summer drink rotation and I hope you’ll make it part of yours too! It’s delicious and easy, what more could you want! I hope you guys will give this a try and enjoy it as much as I do!
